Acting for Singers: Making Your Song Live!
|
Take your songs to the next level. Learn how to make strong and impressive acting and vocal choices from the artist the NY Times called "the fabulous Cyrilla Baer".
Tony Award winning director David Cromer: “She’s not only an excellent performer who digs for character nuance, but is also naturally collaborative. Her input is always direct but never unkind.” Artios Award winning NYC casting director Michael Cassara: "Cyrilla is a singular artist, consistently bringing inventive and exciting choices to her work, both in the audition room and on stage. I am so happy to hear that she is bringing her gifts to the teaching and coaching arena, and believe wholeheartedly that her insights will lead to wonderful breakthroughs for her very lucky students." All coaching is online through Google Meet and is focused on what you can bring to a piece on a very personal level to make it stand out - together we find a combination of acting interpretation, along with vocal phrasing and texture, to make strong, impressive choices that increase the likelihood of getting a callback (or an excellent review). The focus can be on work to be actually performed onstage, full pieces for a callback, or just polishing a couple of stunning 16 bar excerpts for auditions. Currently, the rate is $100 for up to 1 hour. (Classes in the style of the Callas or Sondheim sessions are also available for groups of students.) These sessions are for material you have already learned musically. You may provide an accompanist on your end, sing to a track, or sing a cappella, but this is about delving into the acting and phrasing of the song and how to make the audience feel what you are feeling - perfectly sung notes are not the focus. This is applicable to highly trained classical singers through to usually non-singing actors who find themselves needing to sing (but do have your material already thoroughly learned).
